Toluene

Description
Toluene, also known as methylbenzene, phenylmethane, is a clear colourless liquid, with a distinct aromatic odour. It is sparingly soluble in water but immiscible with alcohols and most organic solvents.

Manufacturing of Chemicals
Toluene is used as a raw material to produce benzene by dealkylation process, xylenes by disproportionation, toluene diisocyanate (TDI), TNT, phenol and caprolactam.

Manufacturing of Adhesives
As solvents in the component for adhesives production.

Coatings and Inks
Solvent is used widely in nitrocellulose lacquers, varnish, paints, enamels due to its high solvency power. Toluene is also used in the manufacturer of adhesives and printing inks.

Pharmaceuticals
Provides extraction function in pharmaceutical industries.

Other Applications
Used as octane booster in gasoline. Solvent for synthetic resin, PVC.
